Yemassee Community Mourns Stephen and Ann Henson Following Tragic Deaths
YEMASSEE, S.C. — The Town of Yemassee is mourning the heartbreaking deaths of Stephen Henson, 61, and Ann Henson, 56, who were found deceased Sunday at a residence in the Mixon Street and Zahler Street area.
According to the Hampton County Coroner’s Office, the couple was discovered by Yemassee Police Department officers who had responded to the residence following a report of a shooting.
Police initially reported finding a female victim inside the home. After officers secured and cleared the residence, a second victim, a male, was discovered.
The Yemassee Police Department later said its preliminary investigation indicated that the deaths appeared to be the result of a murder-suicide involving the two people at the residence. Authorities emphasised that the investigation remains active and that a final determination will be based on the complete investigation and findings.
There is no ongoing threat to the community, police said, and the incident appears to have been isolated.
SLED Crime Scene personnel and regional agents assisted Yemassee officers with processing the scene and gathering evidence. The Hampton County Sheriff’s Office, EMS personnel and the Hampton County Coroner’s Office also assisted.
An autopsy has been scheduled. Authorities have not released additional information about the circumstances surrounding the deaths, citing respect for the Henson family and the ongoing investigation.
