GREEN BAY, Wis. — A Green Bay community is mourning the death of Hunter Rae Posey, who was fatally shot by law enforcement officers Friday afternoon during an incident on Boland Road.
Green Bay police officers were called to the 1700 block of Boland Road, near Steven Street and the Fleet Farm area, at approximately 3:09 p.m. for a welfare check.
According to police, officers encountered Posey during the response and she allegedly brandished a firearm. Shots were subsequently fired, and Posey was struck by law enforcement gunfire.
Green Bay Police Chief Chris Davis said during a Friday evening news conference that a person was transported to a local hospital following the shooting. Posey was later pronounced dead.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) said three officers fired their weapons during the incident. No officers were injured.
Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public. A portion of Boland Road was expected to remain closed for several hours as investigators processed the scene. 
Investigation Underway
DCI is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. The agency is being assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, a DCI Crime Response Specialist and Green Bay Metro Fire Department.
The involved officers were wearing body-worn cameras, according to DCI, and will be placed on administrative leave in accordance with agency policy.
Investigators are reviewing body-camera footage, physical evidence and other information to establish exactly what happened. Once the investigation is complete, DCI will provide its findings to the Brown County District Attorney’s Office.
Remembering Hunter Rae Posey
Posey’s death has left family and friends grieving a woman whose life extended well beyond the circumstances of Friday’s incident.
Posey was a graduate of Bay Port High School and a mother of two children. Her family and loved ones are now facing the difficult task of coming to terms with her sudden death.
According to court records referenced by the family, Posey and Andrew Lecker had been involved in legal proceedings related to allegations of domestic violence. Those allegations are separate from the circumstances of Friday’s police shooting and have not been established as a cause of the incident.
Lecker has a court proceeding scheduled for October 12, according to the information provided. 
For Posey’s loved ones, the focus now is on remembering her as a mother, daughter, friend and member of the community rather than solely through the circumstances surrounding her death.
Hunter Rae Posey’s life was more than the events of one afternoon. She leaves behind children, family members and friends who knew her through years of shared experiences and memories. As the investigation continues, those who loved her are left to grieve and remember the person she was to them.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
